“Where are we going” I asked. I hadn’t exactly been filled in on what our plans were. I just assumed we were getting the hell out of Laredo. Yet after Stacy’s comment and ruthless expression. It gave me the impression, that wasn’t exactly what was going to happen.

“We’re going to kick some major corpses ass” Marie exhaled, her voice came from beside me.

Chapter 2.1

It might be the fact that our day had turned into dangerous one, but everyone including myself looked sadistic. As if, we had gotten rid of our fear and were ready for war, killing for the sheer pleasure of it.

The added thump in our steps showed the excitement inside us.

While pulling out of the garage, the day was darker than any usual October day in Laredo. It was already nine in the morning; the sun should have already made the rooster cork. Instead, it remained underneath the covers of the clouds.

“We have to get to Arena Street, What road should I take?”

Nick pulled onto the express way on I-35 leading to the center of the town, instead of against it.

I knew it.

“It’s right off Scott Street, that’s a highly populated area thou, a lot of those things.” Marie told Nick.

“Yeah, who knows how many more of those vomit bags are out on the streets, especially since it’s the am.” Stacy added.

Marie scooted herself closer to Nick’s chair.

“I know there’s a back entrance off the main road, it’s unpaved but I’m pretty sure this baby could handle it.”

Nick stared at Marie’s face through the rearview window; he gave her an agreeing wink, which pissed me off. How did they get so close to each other in just the five hours I was asleep. Even Stacy wasn’t giving her, her usually pissed off comments.

Marie finally gave Nick a blushing smiled response. Which I convinced myself didn’t actually happened, that was the only way I could seal off the magnifying jealousy demon inside me.

“Why do we need to get on Arena Street? I thought we were leaving? I guess that not happening. Isn’t it?” I asked.

To be honest I didn’t give a fuck, just thinking about the word zombie, there I said it… zombie…didn’t send me into a crazed sissy frenzy, like it did before. The only thing that was bothering me was my lack of connection to Marie. That seemed to be more important than any of that.

“We’re going to save one of your friends, That Jason guy who left the message on the answering machine” Marie answered.

She glided herself back, pressing her beautiful red strands between her and the leathered cushioned seat.

“Oh.” Was all I could say?

It was no wonder she doesn’t bother talking to me, I was pathetically shy around her.

Just shoot me now!

I’m never going to get anywhere with her.

It’s official!

I had surpassed the line of hate, and fucking walked into the line of love. What an idiot.

“Yeah Man! We have thirty-two hours before our forty-eight hour window expires.” Nick interrupted.

He gave a sharp turn into uneven dusty road, just as Marie advised him to.
